Hospital Enhances Security with Integrated Video Security and Access Control System

The customer is one of the nation’s largest and most respected providers of hospital and healthcare services, operating over 200 acute care hospitals, behavioral health facilities, and ambulatory centers. With a longstanding commitment to patient care and safety, the customer sought to modernize its security infrastructure at one of its behavioral health hospitals.

The Challenge

The customer’s existing security system installation relied on an outdated analog video surveillance system and traditional keyed doors, making security management inefficient and time-consuming. To enhance security, the customer required a complete video surveillance installation and access control installation that would provide real-time monitoring, seamless integration, and advanced access management across the facility.

The Solution

Linx Security designed and implemented an on-premises security system installation that included a robust video surveillance system and keycard system across the hospital.

  • Network Infrastructure Upgrade: Linx Security first deployed a high-capacity network infrastructure using Dell Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switches and a fiber backbone, ensuring the system could handle over 200 security IP devices.
  • High-Resolution Video Surveillance Installation: More than 200 strategically placed IP security cameras now provide high-resolution coverage of all critical indoor and outdoor areas. Camera form factors and resolutions were carefully selected based on their location to ensure optimal visibility.
  • Integrated Access Control Installation: Nearly 150 keycard readers were installed across the hospital’s doors, allowing for precise control over employee and visitor access.
  • Full System Integration: The video surveillance system and access control system were fully integrated, enabling security personnel to instantly view associated video footage for any access event.
  • Emergency Lockdown Capability: In the event of an emergency, all nursing stations and hospital management can immediately lock down the facility with the press of a physical button or through the access control software, ensuring rapid response and enhanced safety.

The Results

With the new on-premises security system installation, the customer has significantly improved security operations at its behavioral health hospital. The integration of video surveillance and access control provides real-time monitoring and enhanced situational awareness.  Nursing stations are now equipped with dedicated monitoring stations, allowing staff to maintain full visibility of their respective units. The ability to trigger an emergency lockdown with a single action further strengthens the hospital’s security posture. With these enhancements, the customer can focus on delivering exceptional patient care while maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and patients.
